The Transvaal Scottish Pipes & Drums is South Africa’s Premier Pipe Band. Formed in 1902, the band is one of the South Africa’s most recognized and followed pipe bands.

Formation:
The band was formed in 1902 after the Second Anglo-Boer War by John Murray, the Marquis of Tullibardine. The band’s initial members were volunteers from Scottish units who had fought in the war. Nickname: The band is nicknamed the “Jocks”.
Tartan:
The pipers wear the Murray of Tullibardine tartan, while the drummers wear the Murray of Atholl tartan.
Repertoire:
The band’s repertoire includes the Regimental March, Atholl Highlanders. Achievements: The band has won the South African championships multiple times, and in 2019 was considered the best pipe band in South Africa.
Leadership:
Pipe Major Craig Whitley and Drum Major and Leading Drummer Anthony Evans lead the band. The tradition of pipe bands originated in the 19th century in Scottish Regiments of the British Army. It later spread to former British colonies, including the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand
